Elaine Boddy, author of the popular Foodbod Sourdough website, has recently published “The Sourdough Whisper,” her new book for sourdough bakers. Elaine has helped countless home bakers learn the craft of sourdough through her website and social media. Elaine popularized a simpler, overnight fermentation method of making sourdough bread. She elaborates on this “Master Recipe” in her new book and includes troubleshooting tips and answers dozens of frequently asked questions in each section.
In the book, Elaine covers her Master Recipe in her pragmatic style with helpful photos, and she answers the most common questions in her signature plainspoken, uncomplicated style. Elaine eschews complexity and lays down a simple path to success for sourdough bakers following her method. Alternate timelines are included for different bakers’ schedules. Elaine also includes a detailed chapter on maintaining and troubleshooting sourdough starter problems – a subject often not covered sufficiently in many books. Elaine knows that home bakers often struggle more with starter problems than with baking issues.
In addition to the method and technique, the book includes 40 sourdough recipes ranging from classic loaves to enriched loaves, sweet loaves, and savory loaves using unique herb and spice combination. Her Cheese, Fig and Walnut recipe presents a unique, mouth-watering combination of flavors.
I have had the opportunity to interact with Elaine in various online communities over the years and she is deeply committed to helping beginning bakers and home bakers learn the craft of sourdough. Her passion and commitment come through in this new book.
Elaine’s overnight sourdough method is wildly popular among beginning sourdough bakers and many bakers who struggle with more complex methods have found great success with Elaine’s simplified approach. This is the book for those who follow Elaine’s method, or for new bakers seeking a simpler approach to sourdough baking.
